The Mortal Kombat movie was released in 2021 and is based on the popular video gaming series, with Mortal Kombat 11 being the newest addition. While it could’ve done better at the box office, the movie did receive massive streaming ratings. So far, all we know for sure is that Mortal Kombat 2 is underway. We also know that Jeremy Slater, best known as head writer and executive producer of the Disney+ series, Moon Knight, will be handling the screenplay.
Aside from this, the only other hints we’ve received came from Todd Garner himself, a producer on the first movie. If you know this producer’s work, you’ll also know he loves dropping little hints that could be something or nothing. In recent weeks, Garner has changed his profile picture to show an edited version of the first movie’s poster. While this could mean nothing, it could also mean that we’re about to get some more information about the movie.
Some other teasers that Garner has left was a poll on Twitter where he asked fans to choose their favorite Mortal Kombat realm. Edenia won from the six realms that make up the Mortal Kombat universe. This realm is based on the Garden of Eden from the Bible and is also the home of characters like Sindel, Kitana, and Jade. Was this just a poll to keep up interactions with franchise fans? Or could he be teasing something more?
Finally, Garner has also shared photos of him with two of the actors from the first movie. The photos show him meeting up with Joe Taslim (Bi-Han) and Chin Han (Shang Tsung). While this could be just a casual catch-up meeting with no ulterior motives, we wonder if this isn’t leading to something more. Especially considering the second photo from the day, including the #MortalKombat2 in the description.
For now, we don’t have any accurate information. All of this could be coincidental or Garner’s way of teasing that more information on the next movie is on the horizon.
